The 3’s are Going to the State Play Offs!

Well, we suspected it was going to be a very high quality and tight game and apart from a slip up by Moorefield, it was another cracker of a game – worthy of a Grand Final.

Rain on Saturday mid afternoon caused all finals games to be halted and rescheduled to Sunday morning. At that stage the match was on end 38 and Sylvania had picked up a 9 across all 3 rinks which put them ahead 43 to 34. A good way to finish in the wet.

Sunday morning the weather is clear and Moorfield come out firing on 8 cylinders (just remember that number “8”) and pick up 7 on the first resumed end meaning they were only 1 behind on the big board.

Again, great draw bowling by both Sylvania & Moorfield accompanied this time by 3rds and skips being required to ‘kill’ ends was the order of the day. On end 52, it was 52 all.

With 5 ends to go Moorefield are 3 ahead on the big board. Then up steps Bobby Bartlett and promptly kills an end where Moorefield are holding 3 or 4 shots. It is still anyone’s game to win, however things are about to take a dramatic twist – remember that number “8”??

Craig Scott’s rink have finished and won 26 to 18. A good, strong result.

On Shoey’s rink and on their 2nd last end, Margie Collins has just cut and followed the jack to Coxy’s two bowls, making 3. She then follows this up and draws her second bowl – 4 shots. Leo Gore seems to draw 2 more. Could this be six?? Then it is down to the skips. Shoey draws his first then second. As they were at the far end, it only became apparent when the 3rd from Moorefield began counting up the shots – with help from the Sylvania supporters. AN EIGHT!! Game (almost) over!!

Shoey’s rink win 25 to 23 and then Bobby Bartlett’s boys find that last extra shot to win 23 to 22.

Sylvania 74 – Moorefield 63 on the big board.

To get to a Pennants finals series is one thing, to make it to the Grand Final another but to win GF’s takes an extra special effort, self belief and a ‘Never Say Die’ attitude.

The standard of play from both teams was worthy of a Final and the spectators thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Needless to say there were hugs, tears (including the boys) and plenty to celebrate back at the Club with the new Winners Pennant firmly in tow.

Many thanks to the Sylvania bar staff who had to deal with loud bunch of players and supporters over two days.

Marg Daley for some (132!!) fabulous photos.

Then there are the supporters – your contribution was very important to the final outcome.

Finally, thanks to the Club/Board for supporting our Pennants campaign in 2026 financially and with necessary resources. Craig Scott, your training & drills input at the start of the season cannot be underestimated.

The 3’s will be travelling to Northmead in August to chase the State pennant flag. More on that later.
