Sylvania had two teams compete over the weekend in the Pennant Finals series playoffs hosted by Taren Point Bowling Club.
Our 7s played on Saturday morning against a strong outfit from Gymea and a win was the only option to progress for both sides. When it was 10 all on the tenth end, things were looking good for the Sylvania crew, however then Gymea pressed the accelerator and Sylvania simply could not stay with them. The end result was a 70 to 52 win by Gymea. Congrats to Grant Franklin’s rink – Mick Webb, Mal Watts and Chris Pitman who worked hard and secured a rink win.
On Sunday morning the 3s lined up against Moorefield and whist they had a ‘second bite of the cherry’ if they lost, they were in no mood to play a second match in the afternoon. This was certainly a core focus of Dooley’s pregame pep talk. It was a cracker of a game and had supporters from both camps applauding brilliant draw bowling. Sylvania jumped out to a good start on the big board, but Moorefield would simply not give in and clawed their way back into the match. With 4 ends to go it was either squad’s game to win. The end result was a nail biting 60 to 59 big board win to Sylvania. All team members produced some big bowls when the pressure was on – Leo Gore, Marggie Collins, Coxy, Matt O, Jasen, Slavo, and Bobby – deserve special mention.
The players want to thank the club supporters who turned up on both days – it makes a difference when the players can hear the cheers and applause from the benches.
So – all attention turns to next Saturday afternoon when the 3’s again take on Moorefields (who backed up and beat Wests in the afternoon) for the 3’s Pennant flag. … See MoreSee Less
