Morning Bowlers,
Rd 4 of the Pennants competition was concluded last Saturday with some impressive results achieved.
Grade 3 travelled to Morefield to take on a strong side on a lightening quick green. The Sylvania crew were hungry and came away with a 64 – 59, 9 to 1 win on the big board. Focused performance by Craig Scott’s and Shoey’s rinks guided the squad home and catapulted the 3’s into first place on ladder. There is a very good vibe about this team at present. Spectators who went to Morefield, reported it was a very high quality game.
Grade 6 were the only team to play at home and faced the ladder leading Gymea boys. We knew this was going to be a tough match and the key would be a quick start. Alistair Daley’s rink set the pace with a 5 on the first end and kept the accelerator flat to the boards for the whole game. Trevor Wood’s rink also came good, maintained the pressure and reversed 2 previous losses. End result, a 67 to 52, 9 – 1 win on the big board which also places the 6’s on the top of the ladder.
Grade 7 were at Taren Point and this was another 1 versus 2 game. They fell agonisingly short 57 to 59 and went down 1 – 9 on the big board.
Stand out rink for “Wick’s” last 5 ends were Mick Webb, John Collins, Lynne Allen and Max Galvin with a score of 11. In fact, they won the last 6 ends against the competitors!!!
This week sees the 3’s and 7’s at home, so please come down and support these players.
All teams have winnable games – provided we stay sharp, focused and positive.
Thanks to Bev and Clint for making the sandwiches, Grant for running the raffle and our team ‘sheriffs’ for managing the paperwork.
Jacob and Shoey, the Sylvania number 1 green is fantastic to play on – well done!
Round 3 of Pennants concluded on Saturday, which means we are 30% of the way through the season already.
Two games at home with the 3’s taking on Grandviews and coming away with a 60 to 56 and a 9 – 1 big board win. Craig Scott’s rink (David Cox, Jasen Dawson and James Warburton) again dominated with a 26 to 17 result. Special mention to Bobby Bartlett’s rink (Ant Wiles, Clint Wilkins & Gary Slavin) who secured a 19 – 18 win in an arm wrestle of a game.
The 6’s had a day to forget going down 50 – 57 against Engadine. The only standout was Alistair Daley’s rink (Dean Hodges, Ross Robson and Ross Emanuel) who after dropping a 6 on end 6, held their nerve and won 11 of the next 15 ends! Overall, 1 – 9 on the big board, which was a disappointing result after last week’s effort. Across the whole squad, we were too slow at the start, which meant playing catch up all day.
The 7’s were away at Hillsdale playing on their synthetic surface. They surprised everyone, including themselves, with an 83 – 44 (9 – 1) big board win. Max Galvin’s rink (Micky Webb, John Collins and Lynne Allen) walked on water with a 40 – 11 outcome PLUS they scored 16 in their last 5 ends earning them the jack pot prize of $200 thanks to ‘Wicky’s last 5 ends’ sponsorship.
Thanks to our supporters – we still need more – who rode the 3’s home including a roar that was heard at Southgate when Jimmy Warburton drew a cracker of a shot at a critical part of the game.
To our team managers – Rex Cowan, Jann Hancock and Marg Daley many thanks – you make a big day easy to manage.
Sandwich ladies – Bev and Marg – well done again.
Our green keepers, Jacob and Shooey – great work in preparing the green following all the rain on Thursday.
"Nostradamus” Shooey predicted it would rain at 6.00am and stop at 6.15am on Saturday morning, which it did!! If you ever give up green keeping mate, pull out the little black number and get on to the weather channel. Unbelievable forecasting!!!
In summary – all Sylvania sides have won 2 games each. We need to keep this momentum going over the next 3 weeks.
Teams/individuals need to work hard, think about their shots, commit to roll ups/training (weather permitting) and stay positive and encouraging – especially skips.
Footy is about to start for another year, if you would like to join us for another year of fun in our footy tipping competition you are most welcome to do so.
Entry is $40 and is payable by the start on round one.
Please attach the notes to your round one tips and place in the footy tipping box- all tips must be in the box the game of the first weekly game! … See MoreSee Less
